Chicago/Wheaton, IL & Nashville, TN

Improve your training through speedwork.

Let Jim (Certified USATF Level 1) coach you on the track with other area runners. If you live in the Chicagoland or Nashville area, here's a chance to train hard with one of America's legendary milers.

  • Chicago, IL
    Meets Thursdays at 5:30 pm for warm-up at the parking lot just east of the Billy Graham Center at
    Wheaton College (Chase and College Avenue) in Wheaton, Illinois. Track workout begins at 6:00 pm
  • Nashville, TN
    Meets Wednesdays at 5:30 pm for warm-up at the
    Vanderbilt University
    track in Nashville, Tennessee. Track workout begins at 6:00 pm

Cost

  • $60/month (subject to change)
  • $15/night if going night-to-night (handy for busy schedules)
  • First two sessions free to try out the program
  • If you are out of work - Club is free, until you ask to pay for the workouts
  • Scholarships to the Club are available - please contact Jim
  • $65 for individual written workouts, e-mailed to you

Your Coach

  • Three-time Olympian Jim Spivey (1500 m: 1984, 1992; 5000 m: 1996) (see bio)
  • Jim coached at the University of Chicago 1997-2001
    (13 all-Americans out of the athletic department's 22, and four NCAA Champions)
  • Coached at Vanderbilt University 2001-2005, two SEC Champions
  • Wrote training for the Footlocker Cross Country champion for two years

Benefits

  1. Train with other serious runners who race in everything from 5Ks to Ironman Triathlons, from marathons to ultramarathons.
  2. All abilities (5K times range from 18:00-25:00).
  3. ASICS singlet, and ASICS product available for club members.
  4. Great camaraderie, fun, and respect for a good effort.
